We already have science museum, aquarium, zoo, children museum, city bus tour, swan boat, park playground, harbor cruise etc in the plan with kids. I don't think it is run by college student because I will book the tour from other websites. It is like $20 pp per each tour, and $15 pp for harvard museum.
I am curious of these 2 colleges as an adult, and there's a chance that I may not ever visit boston again. Because we only do travel once a year, so technically there is no limit on travel budget. We would love to visit different cities or countries every year. If I don't do it this time, well, I may never do it in my lifetime. I like tour because I don't need to plan/prepare & I do not need to worry about getting lost. And, I can always leave the walking tour or end the tour early if I want to.

We will check out the museum at harvard, and to answer pp's question, only curious george's store is closed. I am not sure if kids can handle all of the walking. I am hoping that if my early elementary kid likes boston or campus, it may give him more motivation word hard to achieve this dream.
