Just get extra. Nothing worse as a host than not having enough food. Of course your guests won’t say anything. But they will be making a b-line to McDonald’s on their way home and tell all their friends. Been there, done that.

Leftover barbecue is the easiest thing to repurpose. Have too much. How much people will take depends on the way the meat is cut or chopped. I usually buy from Rocklands, and I’m always surprised at how small the one pound container is, and you don’t get that many thick cut brisket slices to the pound. People will take a healthy scoop of pulled meat and probably two slices of brisket if they choose those items. Many people also don’t make a sandwich - I don’t normally eat bread, so I’m making a plate of meat and sides. I’d get at least two pounds of each (pork, brisket) and eat the leftovers another time, rather than have people staring at my table wondering if they can take another slice.

I find kids often eat more than I expected. When I’m hosting, it’s often tall men who tend to also eat a lot, and the women who have more “normal” appetites. I always buy enough for extra, but especially in this scenario where it’s pulled pork and will taste good as leftovers.

Their pulled chicken is awful.

I’m assuming you meant brisket, in which case, I second your post. Get 2 lbs each of chicken and brisket, and repurpose leftovers as taco filling. Also, their desserts are usually great.

It's not just whether you have enough, it's whether your guests FEEL like you have enough. You don't want anyone feeling like they have to take less than they want because there doesn't seem to be enough for everyone.

And it's BBQ -- you can eat the leftovers for days. Get 5 lbs.

3-4 so you have leftovers. With sides, it should be enough. I always want leftovers and want my guest to leave stuffed. Mission BBQ is pretty good. They really support the community also.

The rule of thumb is 1/4 lb per person.

4-5 pounds. Make sure to have leftovers. I’m low carb so I don’t eat bread. I just eat meat. Who says you can’t have seconds as a guest! You are not a very gracious host/hostess.

I’ve never had Mission BBQ. Is it good or just conveniently located?

OP please report back how much you ordered and whether you had leftovers.

1/2 pound per person is plenty.

usually when we eat at friends' houses there is food left (even if there is a small amount offered) because people are using their good manners.
