I was just reading a study on this. Cancer is on the rise for all under 50. It’s crazy

Eggs, potatoes, cheese, and beans = a very satisfying breakfast burrito. Toss in some peppers or spinach or whatever and their salsa or hot sauce of choice.

Applegate makes tasty frozen breakfast sausages that are free from nasty ingredients. It's processed of course but a pretty good alternative and tastes great. Trader Joe's and whole Foods and I'm sure others also sell nitrate free bacon.

I have a 16 year old boy who lifts and does track. We have never had breakfast meats unless we go out on the weekend.

He gets plenty of meat other times of the day, but he does try to limit it to once or twice a day (he is a wannabe vegetarian...easing slowly into it).

Things that he eats at breakfast, mix and match:

Ggg, cheese, and mushroom on a higher protein bagel like Dave's killer bread.

Whole avocado

Full fat greek yogurt

Apples with peanut butter

Oatmeal and peanut butter

Hard boiled eggs

Breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, beans and avo

Dave's killer bagel with cream cheese and turkey slices

Whole grain waffles, usually stuffed with bananas, berries, and whipped cream

On the run: protein shake (whey protein, full fat greek yogurt, a banana or two, PB2, berries, oat milk, and dry oatmeal blended in a vitamix). This is upwards of 500 calories and he will pair it with some kind of muffin running to the bus/on the bus,

I wouldn’t do the fake meat substitutes. They’re very close to real meat now, but not much healthier if you’re looking to get away from highly processed foods. Beans, seasoned ground meat or chicken, steak strips are all great in breakfast sandwiches/wraps.

I don't eat meat and I like breakfast sandwiches. Agree that refried black beans is a good idea. Also, avocado is a good sub for meat in terms of making the sandwich filling (though taste-wise you might want to use a saltier cheese to make for the lack of salt).

I also enjoy a grilled mushrooms and they can taste kind of meaty with good seasonings but that will probably not be a hit with teen boys.

+1

Tween/teen boys do not have the nutritional needs of a middle aged woman. Some type of eggs, meat, starch, fruit/veg combo sounds like the perfect breakfast for kids that age! Plus they’ll be less likely to start grazing on cruddy snacks by 10AM.

This amazing the advice give and asked specific to teen boys. Know your audience

Definitely end this. This is why colon cancer and pancreatic cancers are on the rise in young people. It should be a once a month treat not every day.
