Personally I would just text her, when I am about to go to bed, "I'm about to go to bed, if you just let the kids in they'll be fine!"

Your kids are teenagers. Give them a key to specifically get back inside after the outings. Let MIL know you appreciate her and are going to bed early. They can go on the outing and she can sit in the car while they let themselves in
