A lot more siblings coming into K than 9th. They're all pretty hard years, but K is near impossible now. 7th and 9th probably the two easiest for outsiders

4th is the easiest. Most people do not want to move kids in elementary school. A lot of Potomac parents wait until 7th and 9th. K lets in a lot of kids but at least 3/4 are not siblings so worth a try and then 4th and then 7th and of course 9th.

This plus another good entry year is 6th grade. They add at least 8 kids, sometimes more. Lots of kids applying out of public school elementary schools but not yet the competition from k-8, so less applicants

I believe there were 8 spots? I am not sure how many 7th grade spots there actually were (unsure if anyone is not returning from current 6th grade), but there were over 150 applications for 7th this year.

The spots available depend on several variables but this year they accepted 6 kids. We were waitlisted and got those numbers directly from admissions. They offered admission to just over 20 for 7th grade

I don't know about this year. Very few kids are weighing multiple acceptances at the same level of school.

There is absolutely no way for you to know that this is true. Perhaps for the circle of kids you know, but certainly the applicant pool is much larger than people you know.

We have kids at Potomac and yes, they absolutely reject. They accept, waitlist and reject.
We do have a few friends who in past years have gotten off the w/l at various points. One got off the w/l for a LS grade in August b/c a current family ended up moving away. I also know two families who have gotten in for 9th (in different years) over the summer, so don't give up hope!

Not necessarily parents, unless the parents have influence. A coach may have influence, but not sure about a consultant.

I doubt it’s worse than Potomac. It’s possible they are neck and neck, but GDS can’t be worse than Potomac.

Pure speculation, but if GDS was indeed extra concerned about reducing their class size, they may have been more conservative than usual in calculating their yield out of the number of people they offer acceptances to, which could actually make them more likely to be going to the waitlist than in previous years.
