Sure at Frost, there's clearly a sizable cohort of high-achievers, so the magnet doesn't matter, but at many schools, that's not the case. The magnets provide a strong cohort for many kids who don't happen to live in the bounds of such a school. Frost's success shows that the county's policy to focus on outliers is working since these kids are doing great at their home school.

Yes, the county eliminated the CogAT in 2020 because its owner wouldn't let them administer it online at the height of the pandemic. Although they could've reinstated it since then, finding out what they've learned over the past few years will be interesting. Perhaps, they can get by without it. It's not like there aren't enough standardized tests already. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't reveal anything new. However, reinstating teacher recs wouldn't be such a bad thing...

Congratulations to Frost! I really liked that middle school. Dr. Jones is an excellent principal. My kids attended Fallsmead, Frost, and Wootton. Of the three schools, my favorite was first frost-by far. Great, great school.

The change in admissions policies was obviously racially motivated but it sounds like the Frost kids have "won" anyway.

They get to stay in a school with their friends and close to their home and they have a huge cohort that is high-performing.

I'm not sure the people posting their grievances even live here. I've had two kids go through the program, and the parents I've met were genuinely lovely people. I've only seen these envious and toxic views expressed here.

Wow parents behaving badly.

Frost is a great public school. So are many others in MCPS.

This just shows how great the publc school math & science programs are.

As for magnets lots of the kids at Frost could be at a magnet.
