Its pretty rare (although clearly it does happen) for someone to have a step child only 3 years older than their own child. Three years IS really quick to have a baby, seperate, divorce, find someone new, get married, get pregnant again and have the new baby.
For all we know her DH was never married to the baby mamma of the half-sibling.
