Well, it's not an English name, is it? It's Welsh.

I like it a lot. It reminds me of the slightly unique but still classic names you would see a lot in the 90s. It’s refreshing because it is easy to pronounce, neither common or uncommon, and traditionally spelled. I put it in the same category as Adrienne, Mallory, Laurel, Courtney, and Amanda. Go for it!

I like the Mere part though and I love the name Meri or just Mary or Marie so I like a lot of somewhat similar names. But Meredith to me sounds kind of stodgy and for some reason (even though I can't think of anyone I know w/ the name) I picture a somewhat mean, stern woman who has no sense of humor.

This expresses my feelings exactly. Dislike Judith too.

It's one of my favorite girls names. I've had several friends named Meredith and they were all smart, happy, fun people to be around.

It was high on my list but DH didn’t like it. It’s my step sisters name and she is so classy, I love the name so much.

Meredith’s mom here! My Meredith is a young adult now but I had her name picked out since I was a teenager. The only Meredith at my high school was someone I admired.

Of note; her name isn’t easily understood/translated by non English speakers. It’s difficult to spell and pronounce. Her name is always misspelled at Starbucks and people assume she’s named MaryBeth.

We call our Meredith “Mere” but say it like Sarah or sometimes “Mere” (Mare).

And yes, it was considered as a PP said 60+ years ago to be (unusual) male name.

The Pamela Sartran baby name book I read during pregnancy had Meredith listed in the “Fitting In/Standing Out” category and that cemented it for me. Indeed, we only ever knew one other Meredith K-12.

My friend’s little sister is a Merredith. I do love the name.
You would think she’d go by Merry being born Xmas eve. No one ever shortened her name though when she was annoying, I called her Mair-Edith.

Meredith was traditionally a boy's name.

For the past 60 years, it's been strongly associated with girls.

If my time machine starts working, maybe I'll go back in time and name a boy baby Meredith.

Speaking of swaps and Grey's... I desperately wanted to name a boy Addison. And then GA came along...
