This is definitely the foundation and not the PTA. They can definitely supply alcohol if they choose.

The foundation for our ES has been sending multiple requests each week. I find it really irksome. Today alone we received multiple emails.

Our foundation does this. Public elementary school in a W cluster.

Unless it's changed a lot, the PTA insurance and organization don't allow them to sell alcohol.

I know some of the parents involved and they are nice enough with the best intentions. I think our school just doenst have enough of a schmoozy set to make it work. We do like the bingo night though! I think that’s the best fundraiser other than just asking for money. The kids do seem to like the things they get for the school.

A school foundation isn't the same thing as a PTA. The PTA is part of a county, state, and national organization and subject to more restrictions.

Even if you don't go there are always donations and sponsorships available. But it takes money to make money and these events can make a lot of money. Which is good for all the kids. I don't get why people are so bitter that other people want to open their pocketbooks to help all the students.

It may help all students at that school, but it is really inequitable to students across the country. That's a key reason I don't donate to our school's foundation.

Do you donate to those schools instead?

I donate to a Wider Circle and several food pantries that target families in Montgomery County who have low incomes, not that it is any of your business.

I wasn’t being rude, it was an honest question. If not donating to a foundation because of equity concerns, I was curious what you do instead. Our school has a sister school and I also donate to the drives that are organized for example. I was wondering what others do.

Different poster, but in my urban district most schools don't have PTAs. I regularly donate to teachers at economically disadvantaged schools on Donors Choose. We got rezoned from a highly affluent school to a school with a $3k PTA budget, so now I do donate time and money to our own school as well. For example, I've agreed to pay for the bus for a field trip that wouldn't have funding otherwise. But at our old school, it was a veritable machine of dozens of affluent parents who kept things running (who of course had a big fundraiser with tons of alcohol and $50 tickets) and there was a big line item for field trips in the budget, so I focused on giving to organizations that help the formerly incarcerated or homeless instead.
