I stopped at " ... #4". The big 4 is universally recognized as Stanford, MIT, CMU, and UCB. No reputable ranking has GTech at #4. There is a significant drop off after the big 4.

what are you smoking? GT is ranked top 15 at least for CS by the majority of CS ranking sites. UVA doesn't even come close.

GT is essentially 2 schools. Engineering programs have long been word class. My wife chose to do her undergrad in mechanical engineering there over several Ivies, Duke, and Hopkins. The rest of the school is top 50 calibur but not elite. They are committed to having their CS eventually be on par with the engineering programs. If im going for business UVA is the choice. Engineering or CS and its GT everytime as long as the kid can handle it

How certain is the kid about CS? If there is a chance that they might switch out into, another major in, say Arts and Sciences, UVA is better. If sure about CS, then go with Georgia Tech. I have a kid that wants to do CS + Econ and go into IB or Consulting and for that reason we are leaning towards UVA.

I'll second the prep-/pep-talk and double-down on the washouts. And that hasn't changed much over the years. Several decades ago, I had a college-level counselor at my ACC-engineering alma mater tell me that, while [the state legislature said] they had to let in just about everyone (in-state), they said nothing about trying to keep them so.....[the faculty] tried very hard to kick most out. C-wall classes are no joke.

And the numbers didn't lie. Barely a third of us made it through.

The two schools have very different vibes: Small-town vs. Big Southern City being the main one. Both are good. In my opinion, though, I believe GT to have the better overall Engineering School.
