The question was the paragraph!
OP, this it the first I have heard of it also, but I get SO many APS emails I might have missed it.
Apparently it's a new process. I just got the email about an hour ago. What a pain to have to either find this paperwork or get a new copy... I'm annoyed, tbh.
You don’t have readily available copies of your lease or deed?
I probably do but they are filed away and, frankly, I really don't want to take the time to deal with it.
Then don't. Proof of residency is required for enrollment as allowed by Virginia law. Your kid is already enrolled, so the burden falls to the school if they want to unenroll them based on residency. Hopefully at least one obstinate parent refuses and then appeals it though the courts if the school takes action.
You don’t think the court would be pissed at the waste of resources when all people need to do if provide one document?
And all bc they “don’t want to” 😂. How ridiculous, you guys have probably spent more time reading this thread than it would’ve taken you to find the document.
It takes no time to not bother. The county knows where I live when it sends me property and vehicle tax bills, it can figure out where I live for enrollment purposes too
then I guess you can figure out how to reenroll your kid when they unenroll you. spoiler alert - you need proof of residency for that. have fun.
And if you are in a choice school, you may lose your spot. I am sure the people on the waitlist at HB will gladly take it from you, while providing proof of residency in a timely manner.
Bingo. And I suspect the choice schools are where this happens more.
That makes no sense at all. Or are you insinuating something about immersion schools?

Really, people, I'm just venting.

I think it's 100 percent reasonable for APS to ask for this at 5th and 8th grade and in fact, if they don't do it, they are doing a poor job of managing their resources.
You should find it irritating that you're so disorganized this is somehow a big deal to you.
Also, please don't dictate to me what I should and should not find irritating. I already dealt with it and submitted it. Still find it irritating.
