These kids know better and LGBTQ students have a right to feel safe in school.

We've had kids at our ES/MS do way worse (drug use, violence against other students) and those kids have not been suspended. We had a kid who was beating up kids on our bus. Even that kid didn't get off the bus.

The kids in question here didn't actually DO anything to hurt another student. Address this with the students and move along. A news story? With everything else going on in MCPS?

I wouldn't assume that the kids the document was shared with were "club members". From my experience with middle schoolers, and the fact that they both were deleted, it's equally likely that either the kid invited them and got a "no" answer, or that he shared this as a way to bully them.

The article states the student shared the docs with two other students then deleted them. It’s unclear if the two other students were in on it or not, or if anyone was targeted by the supposedly homophobic student. The fact that the police were called is just … wow, way extreme.

MCPS is a public school system. It is illegal for them to punish based on thought. Unless they can point to a specific action that these students took that is not protected by law, then there is nothing they can do.

I’d love to see the anti-hate protection for mcps that says writing words results in police getting involved.

I'd love this to be used against MCPS the next time they're slow to involve police when actual crimes are suspected.
