why can't your kid send you a quick email on the rare occasion they NEED to communicate with you? I'm baffled.
Because they're inflexible and if they can't instantly and immediately reach out to and hear from their kids at all times during the 6 hours they're in school, it's catastrophic.
It really is none of your business. I prefer my kids to have phones. Especially since it allows them film unacceptable behavior.
what do they do with the videos of unacceptable behavior?
Post them on social media or pass them around in group chats.
and that needs to stop and part of the reason why phones should be confiscated.
It's humiliating enough when a child is beat up on, but to relive it over and over through social media.. that can lead to severe mental health issues, as we saw with the 14 yr old girl in NJ.
Suppressing students first amendment rights is unamerican!

Can the county ban cell phones in schools? I went to high school in the 90s and electronics were banned like beepers and the old brick cell phones. If somebody had a beeper, it would be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.
MCPS doesn't have the authority to confiscate personal property, nor should they have to especially to placate some crazies.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:There is something you can do as a parent. Take your kid’s phone if the screen time is excessive during the school day. I don’t monitor screen time but I do have life 360, which provides battery usage. If the battery usage is at 20% at 3 pm when it was fully charged at 7 am, something is up. My kid absolutely hates when I take the phone the next day, but I don’t have a choice. It sucks. Still, they have their chromebooks and can always reach you that way.
The problem is many of the posters here expect the county to raise their kids and take zero responsibility. Then come here and complain about problems of their own making.

That would be parenting and most parents don’t do that.
How can something that most parents don't do be "parenting"?
