He took a question about crime at the recent community forum. His response emphasized mental health.

The legislation won't change someones actions.
Getting kids jobs, more engaged in education, food on the table etc, will.
The city spends hundreds of millions of dollars annually on these activities. It’s not a lack of money. It’s a lack of accountability and expectations.
And what exactly do you expect from a freshman councilmember one month into the job?
Every time he speaks to the need for affordable housing, which is pretty much every time he speaks, he needs to say “before we can add new neighbors we have to ensure we have adequate space in our schools.” We can’t get this wrong.

Currently, we’re not even close. He has the leverage now to get commitments from the mayor, yet he’s never mentioned it once. Again, he’s not an at large member, he’s the Ward 3 member. I hope he starts acting like it on issues like crime and schools.
He has been in the office for a month. What do you expect? Let's see where the budget ends up and what the progress on the new schools are by the end of the summer.
