But to say they were never any good is the worst sort of snooty revisionism, there is a reason that they were huge in the early ‘00s. X and Y is an awesome album, for instance. Yes they aren’t U2, Metallica, or Led Zeppelin. But they also aren’t Limp Bizkit, Train, or the Dave Matthews Band either.
+1 they got repetitive as time went on but all their stuff from Viva la Vida and earlier is very solid. And they still have a ton of fans and put on a great live show.

Anyone putting Coldplay in the same category as U2 should keep their thoughts to themselves.
😬 this is not good music.

NP. It's super fashionable to hate Coldplay, has been for a while. The "cool kids" mentality. Same with most acts who have been around for longer than a minute.
And I'm saying this as someone who can name maybe three Coldplay songs (all of which I like), so no particular agenda here to talk up the band.
There's just been this mentality forever about practically any act or band that's massively hot at some point, then gets dissed for "sticking around too long" etc. As for everything sounding the same, well, I think that about several hotter than hot acts, or a few classic rock acts who are worshipped. But I'm not going to start threads to bash them to strangers like OP seems compelled to do with Coldplay.
Why waste energy to insult bands you don't like? Maybe start a thread on telling people about a band you DO enjoy, to spread the word? Oh, that wouldn't create a snarky bunch of responses, would it.

OP here - why are you offended that I criticized Coldplay? This thread isn’t about what I find enjoyable; rather it’s for people who don’t like Coldplay but are afraid to admit in public because so many people are rabid Coldplay fans.
You seem to be triggered.
PS - I think U2 is a much more enjoyable band with a stronger catalogue than Coldplay. Of course, their later albums don’t hold a candle to the early U2 stuff. But that’s par for the course.

Thank goodness you're providing a safe space for the poor folks who don't like a band.
