All abortion is "eugenics" to force birth fundamentalist fanatics. They have no ability to discern nuances based on specific circumstances.

Don’t be obtuse. Selectively aborting a fetus because you think it doesn’t have arms or legs and this it’s life isn’t worth living. It absolutely is eugenics. Like the annoying saying goes: it is what it is. Own it.

Eugenics was about stripping women of their autonomy by sterilizing them without consent. Eugenics was the system against women (and men) who were deemed feebleminded; people didn't want them to reproduce because they were considered unfit for society. There is nothing remotely similar in this, even if you personally don't approve of a women's right to choose.

Eugenics is not just about selective termination. It is a whole set of ideologies and technologies design to produce "desirable" and inheritable characteristics--the "master race" concept. A family making a painful decision to terminate a pregnancy based on poor prognosis or extremely reduced quality of life or inability to care for said child is not eugenics.

It’s literally not eugenics. You pro-lifers can’t even do a quick google search to understand what eugenics means before you throw the term around willy nilly. Eugenics is about “improving” the genetic quality on a population level. If I want to abort a fetus because I worry about my ability to care for it, or because I don’t think they will have a good quality of life, I’m not trying to change anything about the human gene pool to improve future generations.

Dealt with hospice with elderly family member; it’s extraordinary how modern medicine has prolonged life. We had to order that relatives BP meds be stopped because it was extending and supporting health and was unnecessary.

Not trying to be heartless but many life sustaining ICU or NICU protocols are invasive not to mention surgeries.

Yes.

Sure. I'm pro-life, declined prenatal testing, and put my money where my mouth is.

I’d rather have a baby with trisomy.

I would not want to condemn another person to live like that.

However, people who DO live with severe disabilities might tell you otherwise.

No. I would terminate. If I had the misfortune to live in a state that disregarded my wishes, I would drive to another state, but terminate I would. Who is taking care of this child or later adult when I am no longer there to provide care. Who is taking care of me as I fall apart trying to take care of this helpless individual. The answer is no one. So, yea I would terminate. I might grieve for a moment, but I would not have to endure grieving for a lifetime if I carried full term.

Then start a thread about "what things would you choose to terminate for?" and name this as one condition you're curious about. You don't need to include other information that is specific to one family.

This is why Minnesota just passed the law they passed. Everyone should be able to make this decision with their doctors.

That’s a good question. I think if you give birth at a Catholic hospital, the choice will be taken from you and they will do their hardest to label you as “abusive” because your child maybe could have survived with millions of dollars of care and more than a few miracles. All it takes is one social worker on a mission. Better to terminate.
