My understanding is that she wrote a note on the wall in the bathroom threatening to kill another student.
The parent wrote a post on AEM about the incident, and that is what they said happened. What is actually said is not PP's business unless she is the parent.

As a parent of Key 3rd and 5th graders, I cannot emphasize enough how much the children, the teachers (especially our 3rd grade teachers), the staff, and parents need stability. The assignment of an individual who has clearly failed - not once but TWICE - as an administrator, speaks volumes about Duran and Graves inability to lead with intention and their strong desire to push this under the rug. We have not received any messages from Duran, not one. That’s not leadership. It’s hiding behind APS staff who just want to pass the buck onto the principle. Where was APS’s threat assessment team? Why isn’t anyone asking THAT question? APS admitted they were contacted immediately - why isn’t anyone questioning their decision to not lock down the school OR remove my child from a trailer where an active threat of gun violence was made towards another student? Bottom line - we need our principle back.

I know APS, as well as many other school systems across the country, are moving away from suspensions/expulsions, but no punishment here in the name of equity does not sit well with me. Then again, I'm older, so may not be totally in tune with all the new thinking about schools, etc.

I don't think anything was shared about the student or their punishment. It's a 3rd grader. Without info, what is there to discuss?

Yes, I’m also surprised that nobody is talking about the elementary aged student making a gun threat, especially in light of what just happened in Newport News. But why are you saying “in the name of equity” - we don’t know what happened, right?

This. If she followed policy, it’s a bigger APS problem and an effective leader shouldn’t be losing their job.
Even if policy wasn't followed perfectly, they should look at whether it was clearly written and if retraining is appropriate. Maybe she did show a fatal flaw in judgment, but if that's true it's not apparent to the school community.
