Don't worry if you didn't get a postcard!! My son is a freshman at W&M, and he was admitted RD last year with no postcard. My daughter was also admitted there several years ago and did not receive a postcard.

Here's a quick tip though...Be sure your child goes to any additional info sessions held at school, meets face-to-face with the rep, and sends a personal note to the rep reiterating STRONG INTEREST and resume updates.
It's difficult to know, but I believe this made the difference for my son. Our rep wrote back, and I think the connection must have helped. W&M really wants to know your student will attend if admitted.

Oh, and the ampersand idea seems to be especially important to them. They like to see multidimensional students - unique combos of interests - the math guru and Shakespearan actor, etc..

So, there is definitely still much hope if you didn't receive a postcard!

Mcps on the DCUM forum usually means Montgomery county Md. I was confused too by this and in state. Cut people some slack.

OP here - in state, MCPS.

Isn’t MCPS Montgomery County? How is that in state for Virginia?

You do realize Blacksburg, VA is in Montgomery County, VA don’t you? And that it, too, has a MCPS. I realize OP clarified she meant Maryland but there is a Montgomery County, VA.

This is a DC-based board though so more likely to have posters from MCPS in MD than MCPS in VA.

I would never assume that DMV types have any knowledge of Virginia south of Fredericksburg...it's called a bubble for a reason.

I would consider that an acceptance. Congratulations if that is somewhere she's interested in.

People are already hearing on this?

Yes, at least according to the admissions blog.

"As a deferred student, your application will automatically be reviewed again, in its entirety, and you be notified of our decision during our Regular Decision review process in the spring. Over the coming weeks, please update us on any midterm/semester grades, recent accomplishments, or even a statement of your continued interest in W&M. If you elect to send us such a statement, this does not have to be anything overly elaborate. This should simply be an explanation of why you feel like William & Mary is the best fit for you. Whatever updates we received will be filed into your application for our staff to review."

But my older dc several years ago got into WM but never got the postcard. I remember stressing about it bc he had a friend who did receive it. So don't despair.

Yes, again, it's not an indicator of anything other than they are in a likely pool of admits. My kid was a Monroe Scholar and had two friends receive them, they thought they were out and there it is regular decision.

Congrats to your kid for the Monroe Scholar! For the other two kids who received the postcard, did they both get in as well?

I am sure they would say thank you, unfortunately he went elsewhere because we live close to W&M and mom doing laundry on the weekends wasn't a good enough incentive to attend college that close to home. Yes both of the other kids got in, the postcard is an almost absolute unless something really goes astray. So congratulations to your child.
