It’s beautiful, professors are great, kids seem genuinely happy. It’s actually very diverse. There is a set with a lot of money and that go out a lot, but you’ll find that at NYC, UCLA, USC and other schools in cosmopolitan cities.

UM has the reputation of a rich kid party school. It’s overpriced. UF has a better reputation both in and out of state and has a great honors college too.

Reviews on Niche give it a C for dorms and a B- for food. I'm surprised about the food, for such an expensive school.

DD was accepted as a full pay spring admit. Loved it & did very well. Went on to a top 10 business school. Says she far preferred Miami wrt classes, counseling, professors, admin, etc etc. And of course weather, location and happy people.

My DS is really happy there - a medium size city, small classes and lots of school spirit is a winning combination and not that easy to find. Plus very close to big city and easy access to airport.

Agree the negatives are housing (which was the case at all schools my DS considered because he wanted to be in or near a city) and some advising, though definitely depends on the major.

There is definitely an expensive party scene too - but not everyone participates- just the ones that post on instagram.

The U is not near the city. It is in a beautiful and safe suburb called Coral Gables.

To be fair, it is 6 miles from downtown Brickell. And it is certainly what I could consider an urban campus.

Miami city limits aren’t very large, so it’s pretty urban.

My DC got on last year as a average student from a DC private. They didn’t give us enough aid to afford it. She was very bummed but happy at her State school. I think they really like private school kids. That is just my opinion based on her getting in. She did test optional, 3.4, URM, varsity sports, volunteer, job, etc. it was her dream school but I think for all the wrong reasons. I’m actually so relieved they didn’t give us aid!
