Holy crap OP!!!!

For reference, my husband was in between jobs and broke when we got engaged.

But gas money??? This is pathological OP, not financial. This dude has like a frugality disorder. Run Forrest Run for the freaking hills!

No, that is just rude. If you own a restaurant and you invite someone on a date their you are essentially hosting them at your business/in your home of sorts. You are inviting them to experience something that is a part of you. You host.

If you own a restaurant and suggest to someone that they should come eat sometime - “let me know if you ever need a table!” then that is a different vibe. In that case you are saying “I will make sure you get a table” but you come and tend to yourself.

I know it’s not the same, but my DH is this way.

He would gladly spend money on a luxury car, extra sports car, $$$ home, custom sports jackets, his watch collection, vacations, etc. Today we ate taco Tuesday because thats what was discounted, and he gets annoyed because my daughter insists on a full price entre even though the tacos are the deal. (The irony is he offered to pay her $5 to try a taco)

We met somewhere. It was early on in dating. I've never gotten a married vibe from him. He's always available and facetime's from home a lot. I guess I could do some double checking.
