Ok, here are the numbers (TJ and School Without Walls are public, I believe. Guess public school parents can continue to “dunk”):

Sidwell, 120 seniors, 6 nominees - 5%
WIS, 63 seniors, 8 nominees. - 13%
Maret, 80 seniors, 5 nominees - 6%

GDS, 130 seniors, 4 nominees - 3%
School Without Walls, 150 seniors, 11 nominees - 14%
Thomas Jefferson, 425 seniors, 22 nom - 5.1%
NCS, 71 seniors, 2 nominees - 4%
STA, 60 seniors, 4 nominees - 7%

exactly and publics have 500-600 per grade


Shhh. It’s much more fun when the public schools parents can dunk on the private schools by using overall numbers and not the percentage of each class.

year after year it's private school kids (Almost always STA, NCS and Sidwell) who actually win because that phase is not based on local officials but merit. bookmark this site and come back to it--one of the two STA kids will win in the end.


It's not merit so much as willingness to churn out a whole bunch of essays. Many kids can't be bothered at this stage.

This is not a fully accurate statement. Many kids on the list do not have top SAT/ACT scores. That is just one way, and the automatic way, to get on the candidate list.

Yeah, it’s an accomplishment, but OP is being misleading by making it seem like these are winners, when they’re actually candidates.
