3 SUV’s for 2 parents and nanny - I think we could get away with 2, but dh (works from home) and nanny would need to do the sharing and he’s not willing to do that. If there is frequently a car idle in your household, I would try to get away with not getting a 4th car. In my house, all 3 cars are rarely deployed at the same time.

Family of 4, with one more on the way. We have 2 cars - an Odyssey minivan and a beat-up old Camry that DH uses for the very occasional commute into the office (he mostly WFH).

OP we have had four when our kids were in HS and College, actually five at one point.

Now we have one. Kids grown. We rarely go anywhere long alone if needed we would just rent.

This depends on your lifestyle. Our kids all had jobs in HS and college, so hence we bought a civic and then a Rav 4. Then just passed them down. As kids graduated if needed for job out of undergrad they bought their own.

At one point we had four teslas. Bye never ever again.

It is not a real race car, it is still street legal so no need for a trailer

We have two for a family of four (two young kids) and could get by with one because both parents wfh. My parents had two cars when I was growing up and despite having four kids and being wealthy, they absolutely never bought any of us a car. We were allowed to borrow our parents car when it was feasible or drive dad to the train in the morning if we wanted to drive his car to school. At some points, they kept an old car as a third backup car. But no car was ever explicitly gifted a teenager.

2 (soon to be 4) drivers and 3 cars. Each parent has a car and we bought one (old) car for twin teens to learn to drive/share in a couple of months when they both get their license.

We live in an area without public transportation.
