Why, when it comes to bullying and mean girls and drugs, all HS students are the same but when it comes to being super bright, personable, refined, polished, sophisticated and so super special, private students are so much better?

As a former private school lifer OP, this is not surprising to me. I was a poor scholarship nerd, so wasn't offered free drugs. I would not send my kids to most private high schools for this reason alone.

You obviously have not spent time at our public high school.

Is this the school that had an overdose /death last year? So sad. And they do do something- they charge a lot of money for the shed.

I agree with this. The fact that they have purchased contacts and bring them ahead of time is so disturbing to me. How do the parents not know that their kids have contacts to hide their drug use. It speaks of many parents being so out of touch that they have no idea what their kids are buying with money. I know drugs happen at all schools, but at some schools there are enough kids to avoid those doing them. Also, that is an insane policy that no adult is allowed to monitor the bathrooms. Seems like they are asking for issues in the bathrooms that way. At the very least the security team should poke their heads in now and then at random times when walking around the school, to make sure the kids are safe.
It this school is very small and your child feels like a large percentage of students use then I would change schools. I know someone who left a private for this reason. Cocaine is very addictive.

Most schools, public and private, have the rule that a staff member cannot be alone in a bathroom with a student (even outside the stall). What we do at my school is if there is a need for a staff member to enter a student bathroom, another staff member must be present as a witness. This policy is there to prevent sexual abuse on the part of staff.

Same here. At a “so-called elite” boarding school. These kids likely aren’t doing coke because they are happy (I sure wasn’t). Try to bring it to the attention of school leaders.

OP here, the school is small enough that I’m worried that my kid will be discovered as the tattler, which is why DC swore me to secrecy. At any rate I appreciate people weighing in. I will speak with the school therapist in person. The fact is that I wouldn’t want there to be an OD on campus. My kid gets the fentanyl issue but clearly these other kids don’t.

I don’t advocate for the passive aggressive route. Meet the issue head on, like a mature adult.
But yeah, find out what’s up with the “no admin in the bathrooms” nonsense.

I'd report it anonymously, from a public computer and junk email address, and tell them if they don't do something like quietly take the door off the bathrooms and let students know teachers may enter at any time, there might be a leak of whats going on and that's bad PR. Something should be done. You don't pay $$ to send your kid to a coke party for school. They can do that at home.

Respectfully, I think that’s paranoia. If you go to speak with the head or dean or whomever in administration, they’re not going to divulge sources. In fact, it’s unlikely there’s anything they can do regarding the incident that occurred. But it’s useful information so they understand the community, keep an eye on the offenders, and address the issue of keeping the drugs off campus and out of bathrooms. I simply refuse to believe that the bathrooms are owned by the students and that administration has no jurisdiction in them. That’s absurd.
