My kids were like that. I basically forced them to keep playing, and now one of them will be playing for a high school team.

Your kid is in 1st grade? At that age one of my did not play any organized sports and the other went to rec soccer. That’s it. Now one is on two high school teams and the other is In middle school and plays a different club sport. Relax.

SIX!?

Please chill out.

I’m a kindergarten teacher and I see firsthand how exhausted kids are, even the ones who don’t do activities. Modern school and home life is a huge lift for young children. Let them play at the park, or draw, play with toys. My own kid didn’t get in to sports until 8, now he’s obsessed. It’s ok to let your kid be a kid

Another rec for swim or some sort of martial arts. My son was very uncoordinated at 6 but also had very low tone. He started swimming and as his strength and endurance improved his coordination in other sports did as well. Now watching him play lacrosse and basketball you would never guess that he was “behind” when he was younger

My 10yo doesn’t excel at any sport but she loves swimming and soccer so that’s what she does. Let him do what he enjoys. He doesn’t have to be good at any age let alone 6.

or maybe bring him to watch a few games, nationals, capitals, etc...

Yes to summer, but winter club swim for a kid who hates practicing would be torture

Try taekwondo and swimming lessons. It's really not that obvious which kids are better in those things and they get the benefits of learning to listen to a teacher / coach about how to move their bodies (in case they ever do try another active team sport).

You produce kids just like yourself.

Being great at activities is not as important as you think. Find some stuff he enjoys and let him do it, even if he's bad. My DD is mediocre at ballet but she enjoys it, it's a physical activity, she gets exposure to music and performance, and it provides another social setting for social skills building. Works for me.

We tried soccer and she hated it so we quit. Not a big deal.

Neither my brother nor I did sports growing up. We are fully functional adults now.
