If your school isn’t having field trips, that’s on your school. Both me ES student and my MS student have been on field trumps this year.
But why are you assuming APS is funding this rather than the organization?
Were the trips to the planetarium/outdoor lab?

Every student is going to the planetarium this year k-5. 5th is doing overnight at outdoor lab. Most 4th are doing Jamestown trip.
Our school is not doing Jamestown for 4th this year (didn't last year either). I haven't heard about planetarium trips but that would be nice. Kid is not in 5th or 3rd so no outdoor lab.
That sucks. It does seem like a school decision. I believe our PTA Is paying for everything this year which isn't equitable obviously. The PTAs have been advocating to the school board to get them to cover field trips.
We’re at ATS and when my son was in 4th grade we were told they didn’t do Jamestown anymore
So in 4th we took our kid to Jamestown and the local area for a long weekend. It was great! But doing that in a day would be he11.
Also, I think PTA at ATS pays for field trip busses although there are very few trips.

Contacted by ARLnow, a Washington Capitals spokesperson declined to saw which APS schools are among the five that have been invited to the event.
“We are not disclosing which schools are attending,” the spokesperson said.

I assume that means because there is something "unfair" about the schools picked. I don't care if my kids school was picked (we are S. Arlington) but it would be nice if the schools were spread throughout the county and kids who might never have a chance to go to a hockey game got to do something special.
+1 I think a little transparency about selection would be nice, especially in a year where very few field trips are happening.
The current 4th graders didn't go on any field trips in 2nd because of COVID. They should consider Mt Vernon if Jamestown is too ambitious or requires too many bussing resources.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:This is nice for the kids (at least the kids who are hockey fans) but I'm sad that they won't do a single educational field trip this year because there is no money for buses etc., but APS can provide school buses for this outing.

You're literally on the bus longer than you are at Jamestown lmao
Why don't they do Mt. Vernon? There's plenty to learn about and it's close.
My older kid went on a field trip to Mt Vernon in 2nd grade (& Jamestown in 4th).
