It’s not “weird”. It’s actually very common and Mike, we will become more popular for females than males if it hasn’t already. It’s a great way to get to Ella.

No, just no. I've never heard any girl named Mike and I don't see any boys who aren't troubled being named Ella.

Elliot is a nice name and I don't think it needs a nickname.

Eli is also nice ... but on its own terms.

Wait- is the Jewish Eli pronounce "Ellie" like the girl's name? I didn't know that.

I don't know any Jewish Elis and know lots of Christian ones. I grew up in a Jewish area too, so I do have a lot of names I associate with Jews. This wouldn't be one of them.

Agree, I would assume your child identifies trans if you told me your daughter’s name is Elliott.

I have an Elias who is sometimes called Eli. We aren't Jewish.

Elliott Gould (Barbra Streisand's first husband and father of her only son) was Jewish.

Not Jewish and that was one of my favorite boy names - but we had two girls. I really liked “Pete’s Dragon” when I was a kid (dragon was named Elliot) and I had a neighbor with that name who was a really sweet kid.

I thought Elliot for a girl was weird then I taught an Ellyette, and so reqlized that’s what people hear who think it’s a girly name. Two female parts together. I still only like it for a boy but I get it.

Eli (pronounced wirh a long E and long i, like eeee-lye could be Jewish or non Jewish. Pronounced with a short e (like Elle Woods from legally blonde -- Ehl-lee is a very Jewish name)
