I would have responded in the same way, OP.
OP initiated the sequence of events with her cheapness and entitled attitude.
No, OP tried to use a gift card. The employee’s first concern was what about a tip. The employee was wrong and should be separated from the employer. And if OP doesn’t get an apology, OP should detail the experience in a Yelp review to warn others.
What goes around comes around in this ole world. OP's and your attitude will follow you.

No, the OP used a gift card and did not intend to leave a tip.

Dou you leave a tip when you pick up your coffee at Starbuck? When you eat at McDonalds?

Anonymous wrote:Restaurant owner here-- you don't tip on carry out. If you want to that is great but my employees involved in any carry out order are earning $17+/hr (hostess, chef, gm usually handles phones and is salaried). It is definitely not expected. We do pool tips though so that everyone in a tipped job gets a percentage of tips. If you do tip on a carry out it goes back to my employees who likely didn't do anything for your order.

+1 Just finished reading OP's post and have been thinking what an obnoxious, unkind, and entitled way of acting from placing the order to now considering a way to embarrass the employee and possobly cause that person to lose his/her job. I cannot imagine going through life treating other people so callously.
You don’t consider the employee obnoxious unkind and entitled for demanding a tip?
