My 13yo loves dystopian, but it’s not my thing. Would these be age appropriate? She’s read Delirium, Scythe, Divergent, Lunar Chronicles from the comments above.

+1 on the Parable books.

I read the Burning Road series by Ann Benson and liked it. The books are a combo of dystopian, historical fiction, and medical/science mystery. I also enjoyed Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse which is a collection of short stories.

Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents. I could not put those two down.

I just posted but thought of a few more books, none of which are a series, but still great:

The Space Between Worlds (Micaiah Johnson)
Rust in the Root (Justina Ireland)
The Book of M (Peng Shepherd)

Agreed. Oryx and Crake was so good!

DP - I generally love Margaret Atwood and also dystopias, but I found Oryx and Crake to be campy sci-fi. Too over the top for me.

Cloud Atlas though it's kind of hard to get through IMO.

NP. I really enjoyed Station Eleven, but honestly my favorite parts of the book were the pre-dystopian ones (and there’s quite a bit of the “pre” in there). The post apocalyptic parts were ok but there wasn’t anything earth shattering there.

This! At least for relatively modern and actually a series. I was so, so excited when I realized The Passage is the first book in a trilogy.

This was the first book I read in 2020 and I blame myself for the Pandemic.

Galveston the novel by Nic Pizzolatto (he wrote the TV series True Detective). This book was also made into a movie but the book is better.
