I’m getting ads on FB for dog bed-type things that are made for and marketed to people. They look cozy. Maybe that’s what she got them. It’s not that different from a beanbag chair. Embrace it, OP!

Please do. It’s kind of a slow night here after all of the Christmas festivities. I’m now comparing materials and prices of dog beds vs kids bean bag cushions on Amazon. So far the materials seem the same and so do most of the prices.

My stomach just dropped. We have a different ethnicity than her family. Is she sending me some kind of message like we're dogs. I know she's hated me ever since I started dating her brother and "stole" him from her. She's flowers in the attic creepy.

Weird gifts. Return them if possible. If you have 2-3 kids I guess they are all big dog sized whether made for kids or dogs. That's about the size of a 3 seater sofa sectional in length width where 1 part is a chaise. Rude to clutter up your floor space. Also sold are dog sofas. Pictires at vendors are hilarious since a 75 pound dog for example might strecth out on a human sofa and take up at least 3 cushions.

NP. They weren’t gifts, they’re something the SIL offered for the kids to sit on at her house.

I wonder if there’s another forum out there with a post like “I offered my nephews floor pillows to sit on, and my insane SIL demanded to know if they were asbestos-filled dog beds after implying that I was romantically interested in my own brother”

I remember my mom had a friend like you who made the comment that her kids were eating out of “dog bowls” when she gave them food in plastic bowls. She came from a poor family and was extra-sensitive that her kids not be seen as lower class. As long as it was clean, I wouldn’t bat an eye.

I mostly agree with this. Dogs have a much shorter lifespan than humans, which means that humans have to be that much more careful with toxins in their environment, since they have more time to develop autoimmune or oncological consequences. Pet products are not tested to the standards that exist for human products. Please don't use dog beds for children, that's just common sense.

OP, you can ask your SIL what these items are, and if they were intended for dogs. See what she says, and decide accordingly. You might have to explain the above, and she might not understand or care, but at least you'll have made your expectations clear.

Darling, providing dog beds for children is one of those subtle signs of class. SIL probably assumed you knew.

+1. Our pet beds are full of wood chips because I've had to sew them and I've seen the insides. This is an issue if your kids have allergies but no big deal otherwise. I think I'd just find a way to say that my friend Larla had the same bed for her dog so she knows you know, but I wouldn't otherwise care too much about this person, especially if she is a creep.

We have floor cushions that look just like dog beds and the kids friends sleep on them when they stay over sometimes. I bought them for the kids to use as floor pads like reading cozy corner

If they're cedar filled, it might keep the kids from getting fleas.

The person who mention asbestos was joking… dog beds are not dangerous to humans.

At minimum it’s suggested to wash before using for your pets.
