My mother got creative with my name and it has caused a lifetime of confusion (including lost medical and pharmacy records). People will subconsciously change both the spelling and pronunciation to whatever makes sense to them.

You may like the sound of Leah, but you need to realize the name she has to give people will sound more like “Leah, spelled L-E-I-G-H-A, like sleigh, but without the S and with an A at the end.”, and it will still be misspelled and mispronounced in ways that will seem incomprehensible.

Yeah that is not OK. Leigh is an old spelling of an old Scottish word that does not in any language take an "a" at the end. It does not make sense. And would be confusing for her teachers -- most of them won't say "Lee" for Leigh" in the first place. For "Leigha" they will say "Lay-ga" or whatever they guess. If you want Lee-ah you gotta spell it with no "igh" Thank you.

This is a mean thing to do to your kid. Learn to live Leah or go for a different name.
