This is great because you have time to get the AG doll. Just lie and/or smooth over. If Grandmother sees it, tell her you already had the clothes or whatever. She can love two dolls. Everyone wins.

If you want to take a stand with your mother, just let her know that you won’t be passing along any gift suggestions in the future. However, that may not be advisable as Christmas may not be the best time to pick a fight.

I’m sorry your mom left you in the lurch. The only saving grace is that you have enough warning to save your daughter’s Christmas.

As an aside, this sounds a lot like a Stupsi doll. They were fancy German dolls in the 70s to mid-1980s (pre-AG era) and are just the kind of thing a grandma would want. They were really expensive back then. I wasn’t allowed to play with mine.

Get the AG doll for sure. Your mom may be pi$$y about it--especially if she can see that your daughter prefers it, but that's what she gets for saying she'd get it and then getting something different.

My mom does that kind of stuff. Her friend says something is better or another kid likes it so she insists mine will. Have tons of stuff like that. Get kid the one she wants if you can afford it.

This literally happened to me, except it was a Cabbage Patch kid. To be fair to my mom, it was impossible to get them back then, but the beautiful, hand-made, high quality doll that was almost a Cabbage Patch kid just wasn't the same for me. Get the AG doll if you can before Christmas.

My mom did this to me when I was growing up. I asked for a specific teddy, instead she would buy a completely different, more expensive teddy. I asked for a certain wool sweater, she would buy a cashmere sweater. She didn’t understand why I was upset that I didn’t get what I asked for since what she got me was much nicer in her eyes.

I would get the doll OP. I'm so sorry, my mom can be frustrating with gifts too. Do you live near the American Girl doll store? They have some really cute events. You can do one of them with your daughter during the winter break and she can bring her doll.
