Has anyone heard whether or not they are going to post this year's scores before break? I realize it basically means nothing in APS, but I would still like to know!

While I agree that gifted services are limited (in APS if that is where you are referring to), being in a clustered classroom does matter. More importantly, when such a cluster model exists, not being included in one could have a significant impact.

My kids at at oakridge and for some reason they don’t cluster. Are the other schools doing this?

Also—verbal score was 40 points lower (!) than quant and nv, which isn’t reflective of what his teacher sees or class work. Anyone else have similar experience?

My oldest had a quant that was almost that much higher than her NV (verbal was closer to quant but not quite as high). In my kid's case the NV skills really weren't that great and math really was an area of strength, so I thought it was somewhat reflective. However the score was far enough apart that the test flagged it as a possible inconsistency. Back then, the documentation on the inconsistency (the "E" profile) said to watch for kids getting tired, sick, bored, or otherwise not doing their best work on the inconsistent section. But these days they seem to worry less about the E profile, so I wonder if it's more common?

You can find more about each profile here: https://riversideinsights.com/citc/profile-finder

Are the COGAT scores out for APS? If so, where can I find them in ParentVue?

Mine got all 9s and I didn’t get any sort of call but I did a parent referral and DS is now in gifted.

If the school does not identify your child with a score that high, I would definitely appeal it. If the principal does not overturn it, the gifted services supervisor will.

Yes, last year my 2nd grader had 9th stanine scores. Was flagged for gifted screening, but gifted services decided they didn’t qualify for services. Appealed to gifted teacher and principal and they said they consider not just test scores, but also teacher input/classroom 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s weird. Were the high scores consistent with other classroom screener results (DIBELs, math inventory, etc)?

Level One Appeal – School-based:
Parents and guardians who disagree for any reason with the decision of an identification committee may appeal the decision within 10 instructional days after being informed of the committee’s decision. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the Principal of the student’s school. Within 10 instructional days of receiving the appeal, the Principal and resource teacher of the gifted acting as representatives of the Identification Committee meet with parent/guardians to discuss the decision and review the identification file.

Level Two Appeal – Central Office Administrative Appeal:
Parents and guardians who disagree with the decision of the Level One Appeal – School-Based Appeal decision may appeal the decision within 10 instructional days after meeting with the Principal. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the Department of Instruction, Syphax Education Center, Supervisor of Gifted Services (2110 Washington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22204).

That’s crazy. That’s also my concern. The teacher does not “see” my 9th stanine kid at all. Did you appeal?

That’s such crap. Excuse my language but wtf. Maybe you can do a parent referral at the end of next year, and a teacher who is more attentive will be more supportive of your sons need for gifted.
