We’re staying in more, not only is delivery so expensive, but so many restaurants have similar tired menus.

Restaurants are at least 30% higher menu prices than 2019 basically across the board. I cut back my restaurant spending by about 70% overall. Tip: Trader Joes has many ethnic favorites in the frozen isle and they taste good to me. $3/4 a entree. A restaurant will charge $10-$17 for the same item and amount these days.

Something nice my law firm did was to get a special DoorDash account for everyone who works here - it waives fees almost entirely. Any time I'm ordering I compare the price on DoorDash to UberEats and DD is almost always less expensive.

What exactly are these ‘narcissists’ doing in these restaurants that is narcissistic?

Blame Gordon Ramsey. That mobile kitchen show did it for me. Never again. Not even a hamburger.
I do miss Mexican food. I found a recipe so my husband makes homemade chimichangas. But yes, the costs are out of control. I get menus from local places in the mail. Oh My.

I have a child in culinary school. The amount of classes in cleanliness would surprise you.

Also, you sound a little OCD.

A little?!?!?!

She would benefit greatly from therapy and medication.

We still go out as much.Since our work hours are more flexible + we can WFH when we want, we can go to more happy hours + get good deals on food/drinks. We. live in DC so we can walk to a lot of places. We have no complaints.

Yes. Food quality has gone done. To an extent, service too. Going to a nice restaurant, ordering a favorite and seeing half the ingredients missing because they didn't have it in stock isn't appealing.

Mostly stopped because the service is so bad.

Significantly cut back. Went out for my husbands birthday and spent $200 for a mediocre meal and awful service. I can totally justify if food and service are good but I have been leaving restaurants annoyed or still hungry so cooking at home a lot more.

I live in the burbs are there are tons of generic American restaurants…many have the same menu…roasted Brussel sprouts, loaded fries, pub-style cheeseburgers with tater tots, $20 salads.. it’s $150 for my family of four to eat at these places and you end up feeling gross after.

Yes because quality has gone down the tubes. I will only go out for ethnic food (Chinese does not count because it’s not actually Chinese food). There is a Turkish restaurant near my house that is amazing and consistent and I’ll go to that all day long.

I don’t mind the higher price, but I have a high expectation for that price.

Then go to a restaurant and don’t pay delivery fees.

Are we the only people who don’t use Doordash or Uber Eats?

Yep!

Nope!

Yes. We’ve almost stopped going out. I invested in some Chinese cookbooks and follow the Woks of Life and a few other blogs. We don’t miss anything.

No. But as my favorite restaurant started to depend more on Door Dash and Uber Eats customers, that’s when the menu prices went up — the first time — for all of us. Obviously that wasn’t the only reason, but the shift from mostly pick-up and using their own delivery people to services like Uber Eats was definitely a factor in the rising prices.
