PP again, and their yield is not great, so why turn away excellent students who would go there? This is the part I don’t get.

I’m in favor of offering opportunities to first generation college students, even if they don’t always have the highest SATs. If they come from weaker high schools, they should be supported to succeed. That said, there’s still 60% of the class to fill and I honestly don’t understand the deferrals on top students UNLESS the fear is that VT is the allowable state school in addition to one private school. My understanding is you can apply to one of each. In that case, the admission does not guarantee an enrollment. How to close this gap, of denying top students who really want to go to VT? Or, is it bc they want state-wide student body? I’m still a bit puzzled by admissions.

So Va Tech is harder to get into than William & Mary? I just read the William & Mary ED thread and almost all the accepted stats are around 4.1 or 4.2 weighted with lower SAT. Some 4.0 weighted.

Aww. Back at you. My DS got waitlisted (soft deferral) at all his Ivy picks, including two legacies. He really wanted Princeton but was deferred EA, then deferred at all his Ivies and RD. Was accepted EA to Purdue, Ga Tech and UVA for aerospace engineering and picked UVA. UVA turned out great, but the process was brutal. I still remember "Ivy day" when he was waitlisted at the Ivies he picked. But we toured Va Tech twice and were most impressed so I still follow what's happening there.

Let's see some stats, please.

Without stats, these decisions are meaningless. Every parent wants their kid accepted, but DCUM wants yto know if the decision was reasonable or not.

Deferred here but her stats are borderline.

I believe the deferred ED kids are moved to regular decision. Have a freshman ED student there now. Does know deferred ED kids who did get in regular decision and are there now.

Deferred ED kids are moved to EA. This happened to my son last year.

The. Typically waitlisted after that And then finally denied. This is how it works for the majority at VT.
