Subject: Do most 11 year old girls wear cosmetics?
My 11yo wears lip gloss every day, and she is allowed to play with some basic makeup (eyeshadow and blush) when she’s just hanging out at the house. She also gets a full face for theater productions once or twice a year. So yes, her Christmas list includes some makeup. As far as I can tell, many of her friends wear lip gloss to school but not makeup.

My niece from CA began wearing makeup around 10.
My SIL thought it was so cute and precocious and along with the makeup came dressing like a 20 something going clubbing.
I’d say way too young and unusually so.
We live in CA and it’s not a state thing. If anything, girls aspire to an athletic surfer girl vibe here. My daughter swam with a club and spent summers at Catalina Sea Camp. Make-up is minimal. I think it is normal to want to experiment with make-up, but it would give me pause if my 11 year old was poring over YouTube or TikTok make-up tutorials. Sure all of this comes with a heaping helping of shaming/misogyny but all humans make judgments based on manner of dress and appearance- it’s just a fact that women bear the brunt of it.

No my DD did not use makeup at all. However, on her 8th grade dance, homecoming in HS and prom in HS - she was dressed up, with makeup and hair styled.
She started wearing eyeliner in college and got into skin care. She has flawless skin and she will use a tinted moisturizer, blush, lip balm and eyeliner now. She looks great. She has been invited to weddings, anniversaries, graduation and she dresses up and gets dolled up for those events too. She is not the false eyelashes and lots of makeup kind of person.

Middle school, yes. They are mixing with 13/14 yo now so they start to be interested. Some girls anyway
