Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks says police in the Maryland county will begin stepping up enforcement of an already on-the-books curfew to keep teens off the streets at night, amid a rise in carjackings and other violent crime.

Wow, this might be the first time ever, in way too many years on DCUM, that somebody used Prince George's County as a positive example (as opposed to an example of their own racism). I'm going to check out the window for pigs flying.

Yup. I do think Black politicians - who understand the very real effects of crime in PG - know they need to get tough, while ensuring their police aren't doing it in a racially biased way.

This is exactly right. And what's wrecking Montgomery County, at least, is a bunch of white progressives who think they are being allies, but who are in fact bringing more pain to marginalized communities in the form of increased crime. I invite Elrich, the entire Council, and all their little activist buddies to spend a week living in the Enclave. And see how they like it.

So let's see. The Enclave is in state district 20 and county council district 5. And whom did the voters who actually live in state district 20 and county council district 5 (which you probably don't) elect as their representatives, just last month? 4 non-white progressives and 1 white progressive. How about that.

DP. And do any of these politicians live in the Enclave? Have they even visited?

I grimace when I think of this council addressing crime. I don’t see how they are remotely qualified to do so. Have they attended the MCPD Citizen’s Academy? Have they even done a ride-along?

It’s pretty easy to address crime from afar, when it doesn’t touch the street you live on. I’ve been the victim of a crime in Montgomery County. I want a present and supported police force, and I worry that’s not what we’ll get with this council. The current plan is to reduce police presence to reduce crime. How does that even remotely make sense?

Love how you take the mythical racist story of the Georgetown metro and update it for today.

The idea that Bethesda will suddenly become more accessible to crime because of an electric trolley makes me smile.

It's not racist to call out criminal behavior for what it is.

Apparently all of this crime just comes from nowhere and it is all just random coincidences.

Much of it is related to drugs.

And almost all of it is happening in three places: Silver Spring, Montgomery Village and Germantown.

But we all know in actuality much of it happens in Bethesda and Potomac but it gets swept under the rug because you know.... money, Big Law etc...
I mean the W schools are full of drug dealers and users. Paramedics are called all the time for students passing out in the bathrooms due to overdose.

The number of homicides in the county has decreased almost 30% compared to the same time last year, according to Prince George's County Police Chief Malik Aziz. The amount of violent crime in the Maryland county has also decreased 16%.

DC did the same. But MoCo is proud of never having imposed a curfew.

It's really not. There is no decent local news any more. Nobody is doing investigative reporting. Nobody stays on any particular beat long enough to build up expertise. Not their fault. They are all paid as stringers.

All the local news channels are controlled by Republican Murdoch or Sinclair. Blame them for not covering any of it.

All you have to do is look at a crime map of DC. Nearly all of the crime in Ward 3 is concentrated at near the Friendship Heights and Tenleytown metro stations. I guess it’s just a coincidence.

I also supposed that this group of DC 13 year olds arrested for attempted carjacking in Rockville took an Uber there.

The point is they didn’t take the purple line there. People argue over the purple line because it’s duplicating well established bus lines, so I guess if you think criminals really hate rush hour traffic on the bus or really like electric trams you might begin to have the faintest glimmer of a point.

So you’re arguing that the crimes near Friendship Heights and Tenley metro stations is from people who took the bus there? How dumb.

Criminals can get to Bethesda via the Red Line or J2 bus currently. Are they holding off until the Purple Line opens?

You can examine the difference between crime in Silver Spring and Bethesda and imagine how that could change when it will be a lot more convenient to travel between the two if you don’t have a car.

Yes, I agree, the Purple Line will make travel between Silver Spring and Bethesda much more convenient. Hooray! I can't wait for it to finally open.
