My DH and I were both medical residents at that age so we definitely weren’t earning that much. I honestly don’t think any of our friends were either.

Pretty much everyone I grew up with. Everyone in my home town. My husband. Most of the population of the US.

You sound like Marie Antoinette, OP!

Yes, of course, but I think a lot of us didn't make anywhere near the equivalent of $75,000 in today's dollars when we were 30.

Most people I know…or I assume, since I wasn’t.

Another journalist here — I was making $100k before 40, but I was not making $75k by 30.

DCPS teachers make a lot. There were gym teachers making well over $100,000.

It takes years to get to that point.

I have an advanced degree from a fancy school and didnt make $100,000 until I was almost 50. Should have become a gym teacher!

I’m in my 50s now, but as a 30-year-old STEM postdoc I would say almost 100% of my professional cohort was under $75K at that age. The only exceptions would be people who left the field for financial/consultant jobs.

My husband and I. Clinical research, even with a PhD, doesn't pay much.

Thank goodness we understand that wealth comes from investments made early, not salary. Especially if it's Apple stock.

This is a completely unanswerable question.
