cause some people are dumb enough to pay $8.5 for brioche.

OP, I just got a loaf of brioche for french toast for about $3.50. I think I got it at Harris Teeter, and it was on sale. >$8.50 is crazy and an insult to consumer pocketbooks. There's a reason Bezos is a billionaire.

I bought brioche at another high end store. It was $10.
Have to say I was surprised, but still bought it.

We don't have bread often, but when we do, we like the really good kind.

Even with that price, making sandwiches at home (vs. eating out/getting carryout anywhere for lunch) is still cheap.

This. WF prices are reasonable on many organic produce and basic staples compared to HT and Giant. The specialty stuff is more expensive. Buy the basic bread loaf, it is similar price to HT and Giant/Wegmans.

Whole foods bread is not that great, and I like a lot of their other stuff.

You can buy a decent loaf of brioche for less than that at Harris Teeter, or get an expensive artisanal loaf at a farmers market for that price OP.

I live in McLean and two blocks away from Lidl and I get my rustic bagette there every morning.

I'm a pp who stated we get it at TJ. Thanks.. I didn't remember how much it was, but I definitely know it's not $8, otherwise, we wouldn't get it.

IMO, WF is over priced in general. TJ has much better prices, expect their produce sucks. It was never their strong suit.

How much of a $8.50 loaf of bread is used before it molds and is thrown out?

Use French bread. Still under a dollar and tastes better. For the lazy people you can buy it already sliced. Cook the whole loaf and freeze what you don't eat. It goes bad fast.
