Yes, absolutely and they do buy for my birthday.

I can't remember the last birthday present from my parents. Probably the year before college. During college I might get a care package of some cookies, but not a bought gift.

I'm in my mid-30s and my parents stopped giving actual presents once I went to college but give me quite a bit of cash for my birthday. My brother and I aren't very close but are careful to send each other an actual birthday present on time each year.

As for my parents, they are financially much better off than either of us (though we do OK) and thus would not appreciate getting money or junk from us. But they both dislike cooking and enjoy eating out so we send restaurant gift certificates to higher-end places they otherwise wouldn't go to, to enable them, and everybody's happy.

Our kids are in their 20s and 30s and we still have birthday gifts, dinner and cake. It's just a fun and loving thing to do.

My parents send gifts (I’m in my 30s). I also send gifts to them and to my siblings and siblings in law. I honestly can’t remember when I started giving holiday gifts. I was trying to decide if my oldest (2) was old enough to give her brother a present for his first birthday/Christmas this year. I might have her draw him a picture.
