My roommate in college was Methodist and their family didn’t celebrate Christmas with a tree or gifts or Santa. She explained that her family saw Christmas as a purely religious celebration of Christ’s birth. I think the material sode of Christmas can be overwhelming and simple can be great, but she said as a child she was sad about not having a tree or gifts or christmas cookies, etc.
