Sad, but this sums it up. We have gun crisis and a mental health crisis.
We can and should bring back mental institutions.
There is obviously a huge need for them.
Even if we had institutions, very few of these shooters would end up in them BEFORE they decided to shoot people. Severely mentally I’ll people are mostly NOT violent.
100% of random mass shootings happened after deinstitutionalization in the U.S.
This is not true. Stop making nonsense up. The University of Texas tower shooting was in 1966: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Texas_tower_shooting
What is true is that mass shootings are practically an everyday occurrence these days. Prior to deinstitutionalization, they were much more rare.
There will always be mentally unstable, violent people - they have existed since the beginning of time. Bringing back mental institutions might help some, but people cannot be forced to accept treatment - witness the large numbers of mentally ill homeless who refuse shelter and treatment. The very least we can do is keep guns out of their hands.
For the severely mentally ill, homeless people, your answer is:
- oh well. ??
There is a desperate need to bring back a humane form of institutional care.

Hunting is a thing, which I get, but everybody else I don't understand. A lot of people buy guns for protecting their home and family. I don't really get that. If I felt that unsafe, I would move.
Anyway, we need strict gun laws, licenses, background checks...etc. Getting rid of military style assault weapons would also be a step in the right direction.
It seems like those of us who don’t want to be shot by a deranged moron have to move our bargaining anchor.
I no longer care about your need to hunt, etc. No guns, anywhere, for anyone. Can you imagine if our police were like the ones in the UK and DIDN’T walk around with guns? It would be like a totally different country. That’s my aim.
The Everly Brothers had a song called “Dream, Dream, Dream.” That’s about where you are. The idea that firearms are only for hunting is silly. There are millions of defensive uses of firearms a year. And by the way, the British have armed police. They are more than willing to use their guns too, as when they shot a man in the back of the head while holding him face down on the floor of a bus.
Nope, it’s not a dream, it’s a goal. I don’t care about your desire for guns for hunting, but I care even LESS about this BS about “defensive” use of firearms.
Keep going, there are more and more people coming to my position every day. The children who had to do gun drills in school don’t want guns anywhere near them. The future does not belong to mindless death and stupidity. The future is ours.

Adequate mental health care will mitigate the problem, but the problem remains easy access to guns.
No military in the world uses semi automatic rifles.

Anonymous wrote:Maybe Walmart will finally go the way of Dicks and stop selling guns now that it hits closer to home.
At this point I just want all civilian firearms gone. For the past 2 decades I just wanted reasonable gun reform, but I’ve lost any compassion for anyone’s personal argument why they feel they should be able to responsibly own one. Nope, I don’t care, I’m just done. The “responsible” gun owners should have put more pressure on the gun lobby to get their hobby in line before it spiraled this far out of control instead of caring more about making sure they aren’t inconvenienced in any way to obtain a gun.
So we need to just be done with this garbage.
And I’m tired of the argument about how the bad guys would still have guns and it won’t do anything. Can you imagine if we had reformed firearm ownership back in the 90s? There would be way fewer guns circulating today and police would have had authority to confiscate all guns that didn’t go through rigorous licensing/insuring.
