I don't want to slant the discussion with my own views, although Maret does seem like a time capsule from the 90s, with indoor athletic facilities from the 40s.
So what schools rising and which ones losing their luster?
I agree. It seems like as Maret has shot up in the academic rankings to equal the likes of GDS, Sidwell, etc. it has paid less attention to its athletic facilities. I think they're building a new off-campus outdoor facility though.
Not much Maret can do with the physical existing space given the neighborhood restrictions. My kid is looking at playing bball and baseball there so while I do wish they had a gym that looked like Sidwell, I am intrigued with the new outdoor facilities.
Neighborhood restrictions? Their campus is a historic landmark. That has nothing to do with the neighborhood.
All private schools have agreements and understandings with the neighborhood governance. These address things like enrollment size and traffic issues, parking, etc.

This didn’t happen at least not during the past six years.
NP. Maret has same college matriculation as Sidwell and GDS so I generally would agree with PP. Plus they have better athletics in general (aside from Sidwell with better bball). I would say Maret’s star has been rising quite a bit the last few years.
OK, Karen.
New intriguing family. Prove me otherwise. We are being recruiter by both schools. From what I’ve seen they literally have the same college schools. If not better at Maret based on %. I honestly don’t see a difference between Maret and Sidwell. Went to the Maret football semi finals game today. Met quite a few families that are headed to Ivy League.
Because of sports.
If your kid isn’t a sports recruit, you’re in the general admissions with low acceptance rates.

This is demonstrably false.

Anonymous wrote:I do not understand the issue people have with Landon. It looks like they are definitely moving in the right direction with investments across their campus structurally. Their curriculum and teachers are on par with the top schools in the area. Is it because they only admit a limited number of upper school boys each year and people are mad because their DS did not get admitted?

If they know they are heading to the Ivy League in November, they are recruited athletes.

Ah. Your child is a recruited-not-technically athlete. Yes, the marquee football, basketball and baseball players DO matriculate to the same schools from Maret and Sidwell and STA. Especially if URM.
So your football player will bet set wherever he goes and you should choose the high school you like best. They’ll all give you an offer
