OP here. Yes, we are in DC so no state schools here. But sadly we don’t qualify for any financial aid. We are in that weird place where our salaries are just slightly too high, but we aren’t really able to save much for college either.

Hahaha, they didn’t give my 4.6, 1570 SAT kid a dime and DC had to apply for Honors acceptance, wasn’t given straight away with EA acceptance

my 4.0 kid didn’t even get into UNC, let alone Morehead scholarship. Try Indiana or Clemson.


It all depends on your kid but no reason to not identify options, OP has not given us a lot. OP, there are a lot of privates that give merit and are also strong for pre med. Read The Price You Pay for College. That book was written for parents with OP’s question.


Agreed but to list UNC as one of the first options of OOS public to give merit is misleading. It is very, very difficult to get the Morehead scholarship. Of course try but super unlikely.

OP, regardless of info you learn, most importantly, cast a very wide net. You will not be able to know for sure.
