Newell Street is probably the most embarrassing episode that I can imagine. It is easy to plot out a Parks and Rec eposiode lampooning these clowns. And yet, they are undeterred and unembarrassed. It’s wild.

The Newell street thing is actually exactly what a city council should be doing- taking a look at quality of life things like giving people more access to open areas. The fact that a few neighbors made a stink about having to drive an extra few blocks and won was what was embarrassing.

I havent seen a statement or even a tweet from any council members or council members elect about the shooting in Friendship Heights last night, or any other notable crimes we hear about. But plenty of spilled ink about Acorn Park street closures of all things. What a complete nonsense thing to even worry about for more than about 3 minutes.

The people of color that lived in the adjacent buildings thought that the closed street negatively affected their quality of life. They had sent complaints about noise, vagrancy, etc which went unnoticed by the Council. A number of white people that did not live immediately adjacent wanted it closed as a political statement about cars which went noticed by the Council who then proceeded to get on and then quickly get off their soapboxes once they realized how ridiculous it was making them look.
