I’m a trans woman with male pattern baldness due to starting my transition much later than I’d have liked. I’ve managed to get some decent regrowth and it’s continuing.

I use the following: MTF HRT, finasteride, 5% OTC minoxidil, dermarolling twice a week (there are studies showing this is effective).

I can’t recommend this product yet because I haven’t started using it but I plan to start it in the next few weeks. It’s 8% minox. You could also probably just get a higher minox prescription right from her doctor. The only reason I know about this and will be trying it is because the doctor that has this formula created is well known in the trans community (he has a bit of a weird cult following tbh but people have told me online that this worked for them).

There’s also PRP injections in the scalp but that’s supposedly REALLY painful. The last resort is hair transplants that cost upwards of $10,000.

While you continue to explore the medical causes, please know that there are tons of cosmetic fixes. I'm a regular poster and professional hair stylist. 100% of my business in the DMV area is hair extensions, weaves, and hair falls. My clientele are mostly professional women in their 40's-60's, but plenty of other stylists see teens. Your DD might just need to feel "pretty" while you all are sorting out medical issues.

Also, most dermatologists will treat hair loss without a specified cause. There are several oral medications that can be prescribed, including oral minoxidil.

Does she have a mental health professional? That is what she needs right now.

There are people who help patients dealing with changes brought about by illness.

In our society (which puts so much value and attention on a young woman’s appearance), this must be very difficult.

Besides therapy, I would try to help her decrease exposure to social media and find other arenas in her life to shine in (career? Sports? Art?). Good luck! 🤗
