This monastery in Missouri has a pretty good one.

There's some monastery -- somewhere in California maybe? -- that makes fruit cake every year. But they also use chemically-laden fruit. (I'm the Claxton poster.)

A few per week?? That’s a lot of cake, fruit or otherwise.

Corn syrup and palm oil. Yummy...

I think it evokes negative connotations because people are so traumatized from eating stale ones growing up? But if you serve it to people as a 'molasses cake' (that's really what it is) and make it with butter and good ingredients, it's a very tasty and cozy dessert with tea or coffee.

I also love a fruit cake but they’re so bad in the US. What brand do you buy, op? I would love to find a good one!

Ps. I’m not 85 but I am from Canada, so probably boring.

Good? There isn't anything better than Claxton -- I'm not saying they're "good" just that there isn't anything better. I couldn't find a single fruit cake that had fruit not doused in chemicals. If you find one, let me know.

Claxton is usually sold at Giant and Safeway and also hardware stores, on the counter by the registers.

Ok, fruitcake war. I think Clayton fruitcake is, um, not very good.
This is the only one I’ve voluntarily eaten as an adult.
I’m honestly not sure about the chemicals. I’ll read the label to see what’s up with those colorful cherries.
I’m also willing to try at least a taste of another brand. Maybe Trader Joe’s will have some options?

Yeah, I have a hard time picturing it as a snack.

YUM. Thank you. I'm going to try this. (But it's not in the fruit cake genre, just because it has raisins in it. It looks like regular cake.)

No, but I really like the Costco fruitcake. It’s very good.
