A good rule of thumb is if Goodwill won't take it for sanitation policy reasons, you shouldn't be charging people for it. They don't take items like training potties, used underwear, or anything with pet hair on it, so don't try to sell this stuff to your neighbors!

One thing I like about my neighborhood is that people curb a lot of stuff that is used but usable, but not really worth selling. This is good for that in between stuff that you know someone could get use out of but isn't really worth charging for. I know some neighborhoods frown on it but most parts of DC support it. You can even curb and then post a curb alert to the list serve if you want to make sure it gets picked up.

Once they’re done with it they have to keep it forever just because you gave it to them?

Plus, no one ever really makes a lot of money on yard sales anyways. I’ll do one for decluttering purposes, but the hourly rate of return ends up being pretty low.
