VT would not have been a safe bet for my kid. We toured Pitt and he never looked back. He was one and done on SATs Junior year, applied & was accepted early Sr year. Made life really great. And he loves Pitt.

My dd applied 8/3 and got in. I’m not saying it’s too late to apply but a lot apply early since it is rolling admissions so you can figure a good number have applied already and they have probably filled a lot of spots so unless you are a stand out applicant, I would apply before the end of the month for any chance.

My kid has a disability that makes academics very hard - due not to her intelligence but executive functioning skills. I'll be over the moon if she goes to any college, much less Pitt. I would bet money on the fact that she'll stand out more as an adult than some kids who go to top tier colleges. She's an exceptional writer, an incredible artist, sounds like a broadway singer and can make adults question their point of view on controversial subjects. The only thing that makes her a "loser," are the real losers think make her life difficult every single day because they think (or are taught?) that the only "winners" fit a certain mold.

Apply this week. Rolling admissions means every day you wait, admission get less likely. By winter break last year, they were telling people they were so swamped that decisions would be delayed.

I would hope my kid would realize that all kids have different talents and strengths, and the smart ones make decisions based on more than USNWR.
DD’s bestie from K-2 is now at the Davis career center in FCPS until age 22 and the hope is a minimum wage job and a group home. She is a wonderful, kind, tenacious kid. And I would rather my DD be friends )with her than someone judging kids going to the colleges that are right for them as losers. Disgusting. (And my kids don’t go to Pitt, so no dog in this fight
