I was waffling between a medium and large and so glad I got the large. I think he would be swallowed in the XL. He seems thrilled!

With all the downtime you can get cold, which makes your muscles tighten up -- not good for fast swimming. They are also great for leaving practice on winter days as PP mentioned.
I am seriously thinking about digging my college parka out of storage at my parents' house. I could really use it for watching my kid's soccer games in late fall/early spring! My mom stole it from me after I graduated, to wear on winter recess duty as a teacher.![]()

I would get them several pairs of sweats instead.
This is so untrue. Mom of four competitive swimmers that live at the pool. Three of my four LOVE their swim parkas. The one who does not wear his is a 16 year old boy who never gets cold and wear shorts year round. Buy the parkas big. They can wear them for years. Some teams have them as part of their outfitting package which is nice.

Wool still retains heat when wet
Maybe, but it smells like wet dog. Pass!
My wool doesn't smell like that. You need to get better quality wool.
