If you’re against “trendy”, most surnames are bad ideas.

FWIW, I know a ten year old Donovan who have never been called Don. My kid also doesn’t respond to a common shortened form of his name bc he honestly doesn’t know it’s him - I wouldn’t worry about this.

If you come strong out of the gate with Van as a nickname I think you've got a good chance of avoiding Don.
Haha not a fan of that one either. Sadly that's why it's on the cut list.
